Hutchinson, Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, addressing farmers at one in a series of the National Irish Potato and Onion Stakeholders’ Seminars held in Claremont, St. Ann, on Wednesday, October 18. At right is Locksley Waite, National Coordinator, Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA). Under the programme, it is expected that some 1,200 hectares of Irish potato will be planted for the 2017-2018 crop year with support from H&L Agro, Newport-Fersan, PROPEL and the Potato and Onion Producers’ Association. The National Irish Potato and Onion Programme is part of Government’s import substitution strategy for the agricultural sector.
