Principal Director in the Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise (MSME) Division, Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Oral Shaw, has called on operators in the sector to engage more in business continuity management and disaster risk reduction.

Speaking at a Business Continuity Workshop at The Knutsford Court Hotel on May 21, Mr. Shaw said MSMEs account for 70 to 85 per cent of investments in the private sector, and many of them are not engaging in business continuity management and disaster risk reduction practices.

Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, the Hon. Audley Shaw, has stated his intention to meet with the Tourism Linkages Council to discuss improved linkages between the micro-business and agriculture sectors and the tourism sector.
Minister Shaw announced this intention as he addressed the 11th Annual Small Business Expo and Conference held May 16 at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston.

Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon J.C. Hutchinson, has emphasised the importance of adequate irrigation to the consistent and sustainable growth of agricultural production.
Noting that the country can no longer rely on rainfall only, Minister Hutchinson said that it is important that farmers understand and employ the necessary techniques to manage Jamaica’s water resources effectively.
